Scarecrow Posted January 16, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2020 Picked this up this past weekend at a local monthly militaria meet. My question is what era is it from? Not sure when the USN began to use china for their mess plates. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

hink441 Posted January 20, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 20, 2020 I wonder if it could be US Navy medical related?
Scarecrow Posted January 21, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted January 21, 2020 I wonder if it could be US Navy medical related? Now that seems plausible. Thanks for the input.
29navy Posted January 22, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 22, 2020 I would think it would say USN MD if it was. But could be era dependent. The pirates lair has some identified on their site: http://www.thepirateslair.com/4-enlisted-tin-cup-bowl-tab-usn.html
Scarecrow Posted January 22, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted January 22, 2020 I would think it would say USN MD if it was. But could be era dependent. The pirates lair has some identified on their site: http://www.thepirateslair.com/4-enlisted-tin-cup-bowl-tab-usn.html Thanks 29 Navy. Looks like you've hit the proverbial "nail on the head". The examples on the the pirates lair site match exactly to mine. Same engraving font and even down to the number "2" marking. Says late 1880's to 1900, so for sake of argument I'll go with "Span Am period". Thanks for taking the time to research and post. Much appreciated. BOLO Posted January 26, 2020 Share #7 Posted January 26, 2020 looks like something they would have used in The Yangtze Patrol, also known as the Yangtze River Patrol Force, Yangtze River Patrol circa 1902 on a Gunboat
