No Quarter Posted January 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2020 Hey guys, I was able to purchase these items at the Raleigh Military Show a few weeks ago. I purchased a sealed box of 45 ammo, I don't know the date on the box. I also got about two dozen .45 rounds dated 1942 and a WWII period .45 magazine. Thanks for looking and any comments appreciated! Jacob

silverplate Posted January 14, 2020 Share #4 Posted January 14, 2020 I might be able to help with dating the box if you can tell me the lot number. I can't make it out in the photo.
No Quarter Posted January 14, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted January 14, 2020 I might be able to help with dating the box if you can tell me the lot number. I can't make it out in the photo. I'll have to get my Dad to get a pic, I'm away at college right now. Jacob
silverplate Posted January 14, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 14, 2020 I really don't need another photo, just the lot number. All of the ammunition manufacturers transitioned from the 20 round carton to the 50 round carton by mid-1942, so it's safe to assume your example is no newer than 1942. Also, the label is an early-war style commonly used by all the plants. Hope this helps. Charlie T
No Quarter Posted January 14, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted January 14, 2020 I facetimed my brother today and it seems that the box doesn't have any lot number. Possibly civilian? Jacob
silverplate Posted January 15, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 15, 2020 No, your box is a military contract box. In mid-1940 educational contracts were given to Remington and Western by the Ordnance Dept. to build up ammunition stocks for the upcoming war. I have several Remington and Western boxes from that time period that have extremely faded or washed out lot numbers. It's not uncommon. That said, without opening the box to check headstamp dates, your example would fall within the 1940-1942 manufacturing time frame.
