rocky Posted January 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2020 I picked this up at an estate sale and when I brought it home it took me awhile to get out the liner. Apparently it was never taken out since the war. Unfortunately it must have built condensation in there & it bled onto the liner but I think it is a nice & interesting helmet. Here are some pics. Thanks, rocky

Blacksmith Posted January 13, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 13, 2020 You were very fortunate that you did not destroy that liner removing it. My respectful recommendation would be to put it back in asap, and not remove it again. Exposure to changes in humidity can cause those liners to swell, making them difficult - if not impossible - to put back in the shell.

rocky Posted January 13, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted January 13, 2020 more pics well it was coming out a little at a time. If I thought I would do damage I would have stopped. I am glad I got it out to remove some rust out of the shell from further damage to it. Thanks for your quick reply. rocky

Im surprised it didn't split when removed. The fiber liners can be real frail even in good shape.Saw a guy at a show back in 1998 pull a liner out of a shell. It wasn't even reall stuc.He grabbed the front lip/brim and ended up with a 4 inch piece tore out of the front of the liner...seller told him you just bought it.The look on his face was a kodak moment.
