CHASEUSA11B Posted January 11, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2020 Hello all, I posted this in the Facebook forum. I just received this pair of Pharmacist mate jumpers named to L E Nagle from eBay. One is issued and one is a private purchase from “Dandy Naval Tailors” with great embroidery. The issued jumper has a pharmacist mate 2nd class rate and the private purchase has a 1st class rate. I found a grave and obituary to a LeRoy E Nagle who was PHM2 and served on Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Odd that the final rate is higher on the jumper than the tombstone but there can’t be that many L E Nagle’s who served as Pharmacists mates in WW2. What do you guys think? https://www.legacy.com/amp/obituaries/legacy/17626693 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

29navy Posted January 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2020 Probably was a temporary 1st class and when the war was over, reverted back to his permanent rate of 2nd Class.

doyler Posted January 11, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 11, 2020 Cant comment on the rank but the jumper with the fancy victory stitched lining is what I would say he wore home at wars end.Seen a lot of sailors get these custom jumpers at wars end.THe ruptured duck also I would say indicates the uniform was worn at discharge. 29navy Posted January 11, 2020 Share #9 Posted January 11, 2020 Or another thought....when he made 1st class (maybe temporary), with the additional money, he got himself a set of tailor-mades and wore those instead of the issue blues. Also note that the 2nd class jumper doesn't have the service stripe.
sigsaye Posted January 11, 2020 Share #10 Posted January 11, 2020 If his rate was PHoM 1/c (T), all of his paperwork would carry him as PHoM 2/c, as that was his real, permanent rate. Obviously, because of the Ruptured Duck and Hash Mark, he wore the nice Tailor Mades home. The issue jumper was just stuffed in his bag. Youll notice on the tag of the issue jumper, it has PHM2/c. So, that was a reissue jumper also.
