patches Posted January 8, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2020 This from the 1977 Army Green Book's cover, one Spec 5 John T. Jones, 82nd Airborne Division.Interesting ball cap he's wearing, Light Blue front White body, with the Oval of the 2nd Battalion 325th Infantry (Abn), and the new Gold Colored Metal Ranks. He's wearing Whites, so either a Cook or a Medic. Any ideas what the cap is for?
BEAR Posted January 8, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 8, 2020 Medics in an Infantry Battalion wear the same uniform as the Grunts. If they worked in a hospital or a medical clinic then they would wear the whites. My guess would be that this spec 5 works with food service. Since food service personnel must be covered when working in the mess hall then it would make sense that they would be provided with head gear that identifies them as belonging to this battalion mess. The colors of this hat are the same as the colors of the 325th oval and flash.

Thanks for looking in BEAR, An Intriguing Idea, my thoughts would be if he was a Medic, then why the Inf Blue and not Maroon of the MC, so maybe he is a Cook, great period photo right. PS I'll be posting two more from the cover, in The Berets topic, these wearing the original Maroon Berets of the 70s.So keep you eyes peeled.
