easterneagle87 Posted January 6, 2020 Author Share #29 Posted January 6, 2020 Thanks everyone for your kind comments. You never know what is going to come next. In fact, the person whom I got the medals from said he had a picture and asked if I would I be intereted. The more info and pieces that can be held together, the better. And after so many years, Of course I said, "Yes". This is following along to join the medals. Photo arrived and will be a nice addition to the group. JDK Posted January 23, 2020 Share #32 Posted January 23, 2020 Wow! How did I miss this one! Great group. Definitely one of the better sets I've seen here in quite a while. Thanks for sharing it. JD
JDK Posted January 23, 2020 Share #33 Posted January 23, 2020 After reading the citation, I'm surprised that he wasnt awarded the Navy Cross. I have a couple groups with similar actions and they were both awarded the NC. I also have a very similar AAF group where the pilot was killed going up against a large group of enemy planes and was himself shot down and killed after shooting down a couple, he was awarded the DSC. I guess I'm just interested in the fact that similar actions provided different awards through out the war. No rhyme or reason to it. Again, great group. Thanks for sharing this heroes story.
