mysteriousoozlefinch Posted December 15, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2019 Two items I've had for a long time yet somehow never posted! Both flight logs belonging to AD1 James L. Babb. AD1 Babb served with VP-9, a PBM Mariner unit I've not identified, and VAH-3 from 1951 to 1958. First set is from his first, covering the years 1951 to 1955. Second is much shorter and covers 1956-1958 when he was apparently mostly on ground duty with an A3D Sky Warrior squadron. Luckily enough, there is a photo of Mr. Babb contributed to vpnavy.com by the crew Navigator Robert F. Phillips. AD1 J.L. Babb, second from left, front row. Cover of Log I ID and information page. March 1951, training flights. June 21, 1951, AD1 Babb was one of 5 survivors when the PB4Y-2 he was flight engineer of crashed into Skagit Bay on a training flight from NAS Seattle. He flew again three days later, still on Lt. Carl Hodge's crew. August 1951, training time in Alaska. June 1952, some passenger time. On the way out to Korea part of their flight was on the Caroline Mars. August 1952, some Korean combat/patrol missions. More Korean combat/patrol missions in September 1952. Map traced over the pages in November 1952!
mysteriousoozlefinch Posted December 15, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted December 15, 2019 February 1953, conversion to P2V Neptunes. July 1953, checking out on PBM Mariners. Transferred to VAH-3 Log II cover Log II info page. September 1958, one of the last big months for flight time in Log II. Both logs together with J.L. Babb on the spine.
