Joel Shorey enlisted on July 2,1861 in the 16th Mass. Vol. Inf. He was 21 years old and from Cambridge Mass. The 16th was heavily engaged in the battles of Fair Oaks,Glendale,Second Bull Run,Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville where he was wounded in the left leg breaking his tibia bone. He was discharged , returned home married and lived until 1926. Judging from the wear on the disc it was a cherished keepsake. post-137056-0-34973600-1574553406_thumb.jpegpost-137056-0-09107500-1574553424_thumb.jpeg

Hey Frank Thanks for the comment. It’s hard to imagine what he went thru, the 16th seem to have been engaged and suffered casualties at all the Battles listed. Being wounded at Chancellorsville he missed Gettysburg where they had 15 killed , 53 wounded and 10 taken prisoner and 8 missing out of 307 present for duty. He was active in the GAR.
