Hello,

Is this eagle an early Army Officer's Visor Hat Insignia or a Sweetheart piece. I've never come across one like this. If it is a hat piece what type of hat and time period was it used ?

I've always thought these were sweetheart pins. Sometimes you see them decorated with enamel.

Thank you VM188. I thought the same thing and I have one of the painted ones.

Thanks again,

There were pinback model officers badge but much earlier and I think the wings were more upswept. Also the catch system is similar to the WW1 officers pinback insignia

Interesting piece.  I have an enlisted pin back cap badge that came as part of a Pearl Harbor survivor group.
