Scotty,

The best I can do for you is to say that I was once told by an 82nd A/B veteran (1950's- 1960's era) that the "Diving Devils" patch was a sport parachute club at FT Bragg. Obviously, the devil looks very similar to a 508th "skinny" devil. I know that isn't a sure thing and I have no documentation, but that was the answer that I received.

I was told the diving devils was an early Special Forces parachute team / club, by someone who was in the unit.

The top one has always been a generic Quick Reaction Force patch related to Mike Force units.

The top patch suggests a vehicle mounted M-60. Air/Security Police units in Vietnam had quick reaction teams equipped with these so this might be a lead too.

I acquired an SF grouping this week that was heading to the garbage. In it was a Diving Devils patch. The veteran was, like the original owner of Bob’s sateen, from Kansas City. He graduated from JFK in 1965 and served with 12th SF Company C which was a reserve unit. I found one article from 1965 describing a jump they participated in at Ft Leavenworth. The patch may have been specific to the 12th or C company and their club/team.
