Major Dr. Charles E. Miller

Hey all,

 

I picked up this jacket on ebay about a week ago because it was named to a doctor on the interior. The doctor's name is Charles E Miller and Served in Patton's third army and ADSEC. I was able to find his obituary online and it gave some greater detail on his service. I still am looking for a lot more info on his service and his unit. The obituary stated that he was a battalion surgeon for the 553 engineer battalion.

Dr. Richard E. Miller, 94, of Hometown Ave., Tamaqua, died Friday in his home. He was the husband of Regan (Miller) Miller.

From 1949 through 1995, he had a private medical practice in Tamaqua. He also served as Chief of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the former Coaldale State Hospital. For a short time, he also practiced at the former Good Samaritan and Pottsville Hospitals.

Born in Tamaqua, he was a son of the late Howard W. and Anna C. (Pfeil) Miller.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater with Gen. Patton's Third Army, serving as Battalion Surgeon with the 553 Engineer Battalion. He later served at the U.S. Station Hospital in Etampes, France. Attaining the rank of major, he was the recipient of four batttle stars - Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Following the war, he completed a three year residency in the Deptartment of Obstetrics and Gynocology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.A 1933 graduate of Tamaqua High School, where he was class salutatorian, he was the valedictorian of Ursinus College Class of 1937. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1941 and interned at Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tamaqua, where he was a former member of the Consistory.
A member of the Tamaqua Board of Health, he was also a member of the Pennsylvania and American Medical Society and a fomer member of the Tamaqua Elks and the Tamaqua Rotary Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Richard G. Miller; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Elizabeth A. Semko; and a brother, Wilmer Miller.

 

 

 

I had to restore this uniform because all of the insignia were missing except for the ribbon bar on his jacket.

I tried to place the pins the best I could over the pre-existing pin holes.

 

please leave any comments on how I can improve my little display.
