Helping someone research his Grandfather from Washington State, and he was in the 347th MG Bn. Hoping someone on here can help! thanks! trenchbuff Posted October 31, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2019 Elizabeth, They were part of the 91st Division so would have worn the green tree patch.
stratasfan Posted October 31, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted October 31, 2019 Oh, thanks! So the 347th didn't have a patch of their own? -playfully indignant - Why not? -grin- I like less-generic patch designs. Having to go up to the division patch. How unoriginal! Thanks ever so much! stratasfan Posted October 31, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted October 31, 2019 Oh, one of those with the number? Actually, what was a Machine Gun Battalion collar disc like? Come to think of it, I have no idea! I don't really do a lot with MG Bns. I've made a couple Great War USMC MG unit patches, but that's about it! manayunkman Posted October 31, 2019 Share #7 Posted October 31, 2019 They would be crossed rifles with regiment number above and MG below on a round disc the size of a quarter.
MAW Posted October 31, 2019 Share #8 Posted October 31, 2019 They would be crossed rifles with regiment number above and MG below on a round disc the size of a quarter. Actually, the disc you describe would be for the MG company, 347th Infantry. Crossed rifles with an MG below are for a machine gun company. MG above crossed rifles is for an MG battalion. If a numbered disc were worn in conjunction, it would be a "US/347" or "USNA/347". Hope this helps to clarify....

Thanks for that link! There are some really cool ones in there! Really like the first one in post #10! I like the look of the plain green tree sewn on the uniform shoulder. Very nifty! There is one embroidered one in that thread that looks more like an Elvish tree from Lord of the Rings!
