Hi guys,

I purchased this Amcraft pilot wing from a good friend today.

I was wondering if anybody here has any idea what the name scratched into the reverse may be?

K Lee

K Leek

Kleek

Also am I right in thinking there is a website with the service records of former USAAF personnel?

Many thanks in advance.

K Klee?

Yes, or K Klee :-)

I need to try and research all of the possible names. I've looked on NARA but I'm not even sure if that's the correct place to search?

Some background info on the wing. I am the 4th owner since the war!

The friend I bought the wing from was a big collector of RAF items and in the 1980s used to do an RAF themed window display for a department store to help raise money for the RAF Association on the island of Jersey. He made the acquaintance of the vice president of the RAFA on Jersey, a former wartime Halifax bomber pilot by the name of Alan Edward Newitt DFC (Wing Commander retd). Anyway, Newitts' wife Nancy Ella gave my mate these Amcraft wings telling him an American pilot friend had given them her during the war.

Unfortunately that's all the info I have.

I am thinking it is K. Lee since the K is so much larger than the other letters. The name would be much more common also.

Allan

I'm not so sure Allan. I think he may have started off with the large K and then realised he would run out of space if he carried on with that size...who knows though?

It may be this guy?? A friend found the below info but unfortunately we don't have access to the draft records. Is that actually accessible online?

So the original owner of the wing may be either of these two guys. Is it possible to find out if either were pilots?

Thank you so much for the info, I really appreciate it!

Heres where you gotta start digging...a request to NARA should give you more info

Can anyone make a NARA request?

You can request records. On the SF-180 form you will have to state your reason for the record request. Check off the OTHER box and write in History Researcher. Due to the age of the records, you won't have a problem.
