In American Web Gear Equipment 1910-1967 page 62 it states that they were originally issued in green. Thoughts on this e tool would be great. Not trying to hijack this thread, as I have already posted this before, but for comparison purposes here is my 69 dated shovel (ignore the canteen, this is the only picture of the date I have on hand). The book U.S. Army Uniform of the Vietnam War by Shelby Stanton pages 174-176 has some good information about the early improvements to this e tool/shovel.
