aznation Posted October 6, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2019 Hello, I thought I'd share one of my latest acquisitions of a 158th Infantry item. I believe it's a M1912 RIA swivel holster dated 1913. Below the Rock Island Arsenal 1913, there's initials T.C.C., which I'm not sure if that's an inspectors initials. Maybe someone will know. Also, the back side of the holster it shows Sup Sgt, M S Hawkins, 1629309, PHONEIX, AZ, followed by "Co K", 158th Inf, 40th Div., 79th Brig., U.S.A. On the front of the holster on the flap are stamped numbers/letter 10C41 which may be some sort of inventory system, but I'm not sure. After doing some research, I found that the holster belonged to a Supply Sergeant named Merritt Sylvester Hawkins from Phoenix, AZ, whose service number was 1629309 and was indeed in Company K, 158th Infantry, 40th Division, 79th Brigade. Following are pictures of the holster and information I found on Sgt. Hawkins.

aznation Posted October 7, 2019 Author Share #18 Posted October 7, 2019 Thanks for the comments guys! WWI 158th items are REALLY hard to come by. Not really sure why but they are, so I'm glad I was able to get this piece. I also thought it was kind of neat that in Merritt's obituary it mentions that he served with the Arizona National Guard on the Mexican border in 1915.
