Does anyone have info and pics of prewar US Army private stripes for ranks 2nd, 3rd and 4th class?

Thank you

If you want the story on these chevrons, get yourself a copy of Emerson's book on Army chevrons.

Now that's really interesting, they made these in branch colors for blues!

Is there any photos of them around the Ranks Forum?

I have to think these type chevrons would be very rare and difficult to find.

I agree with KurtA, this has to be an extremely rare chevron. This is a first for me to see this chevron worn on the dress blue uniform. Does anyone have an example of one in branch colors?

I now have Emerson's Chevron book at my bedside

So I Checked it out, he depicts only two examples of these Color Specialist ranks in the operative chapter for this time frame. A Signal Corps Specialist 6th Class and a Specialist 4th Class Mechanic, this is the one with those Crossed Hammers. Both are applique.

SC, of course with Orange device, chevron and rocker, with it having thin White piping along the chevron and rocker, the Mechanic is all in Red, Coast Artillery and or Field Artillery, perhaps Mechanic Specialists could be found in other branches, thus the full color ones for Mechanic could then be found in other colors???

I've never seen this type of chevron before!? When were they first instituted and then discontinued in the service? Were they only for musicians and band members? Does anyone have a picture of an example in their collection they'd like to share?.

Thanks,

Hunt

Hunt are You talking about the 30s specialist ranks in general or branch colored specialist ranks as seen here on the man in Blues?

30's Specialist ranks in general, but I am interested in branch colored specialist ranks as well! I haven't heard of both before.

Thanks,

Hunt

"Two members of Battery B, 133rd Field Artillery, said goodbye to their girlfriends at the rear of the armory at 13th Street and Jennings Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas, just before Battery B and Headquarters Battery of the same regiment left for Camp Bowie at Brownwood, Texas. Seated on a pile of duffel bags are, left to right, Private Lorayne Griffin, Martha Ann Diggs, Private Mac R. Waldrip and Eva Mae Crider. The servicemen are wearing their military uniforms. Miss Diggs is wearing a dress and a coat. Miss Crider is wearing a dress and a fur coat.
