bunkerhillburning Posted September 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2019 I have posted a cabinet card photo of Boston Latin School Senior, George Luther Lincoln taken in 1891. I do not know if the Boston Latin School used uniforms at the time. I can not identify the types of medals this student is wearing. One of them is engraved at the top ' ' Sgt. G. L. Lincoln ' and others ' Open to All ' - are these some type of marksmanship medal?

JBFloyd Posted September 26, 2019 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2019 These are marksmanship/bayonet drill/marching/service medals produced by schools for their cadet corps (pre-Junior ROTC). Massachusetts seems to be the most prolific area for these and Boston Latin is among the most commonly seen.
