BILL THE PATCH Posted September 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2019 Does Anyone know what patch went with this tab, or was it separate Patch? Any photos of it being worn? Is it ww2 or post. gwb123 Posted September 25, 2019 Share #12 Posted September 25, 2019 Really? I was always told it's American. Never heard the Panamanian connection. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk It's common for when military personnel serve outside of their countries to have a shoulder tab like this. Especially if they were going to a service school in the United States, such as the School of the Americas. You can see this with ARVN personnel who came to the US for technical training. Often they wore a shoulder tab like this that said "South Vietnam" in white letters with a red background. That tab was worn overseas and not in their home country. Oddly enough, a lot of GI's bought that same tab and used it on their souvenir "go to hell" boonie hats and such. I am not saying definitively that your Panama tab was used this way, but it is a possibility.
patches Posted September 25, 2019 Share #13 Posted September 25, 2019 gwb gave me an idea, could this tab of been worn with the School of Americas patch??? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Hemisphere_Institute_for_Security_Cooperation#School_of_the_Americas
gwb123 Posted September 25, 2019 Share #14 Posted September 25, 2019 Okay, I think we are mixing two different things. Such shoulder tabs would have been worn on the uniforms of the students. I don't believe the students wore the School of Americas patch. That would be for school cadre. I am not sure if that is a pocket patch (like the Jungle Expert patch) or a shoulder patch. SOA may have been a bad example, as it is located in Panama itself. A better example would be a stateside school, such as Command and General Staff College. The school moved to Ft Benning in 1984 was the reason I thought of the patch. I like you don't know more on the SOA patch, tried finding images but no dice. As far as Stateside schools, in particular the C&GS College those officers wear the national uniform while their there, pretty sure it will be the same at other army schools, at least dress, maybe they wear America fatiques, like if they are at jump school etc.
