Wake1941 Posted September 23, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2019 This looks way too sloppy for German made, I think this is surplus or fantasy made

Unicorn Posted October 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 11, 2020 I know this is old, but it seems to come up in various places. There is no current design for a 4th award. Only after 2001 did a 4th time period for the CIB exist. A person would have to have been in WW2, Korea, something from Vietnam until 10-Sep-2001 (you could have been in Vietnam, Lebanon, Panama, Grenada, Desert Storm, and Somalia and you would still only have a single CIB), and in the GWOT (Afghanistan, Iraq, possibly the Phillipines and Africa), to have 4 awards. I don't think there was anyone in their late 60s or early 70s even in the early invasion of Afghanistan, so there are no quadruple recipients of the CIB. Basic Rifleman Posted November 24, 2021 Share #7 Posted November 24, 2021 While you are correct in saying no soldier would rate a fourth award CIB, salesman's samples were made by at least two manufacturers back in the 1960's when the Army briefly changed their criteria for how CIB's and the corresponding awards would be earned. Actually, 5th through 8th awards were made as well. The only known authentic samples were made in 1/10 10k Gold by Balfour for presentation to the Army before the idea was eventually scrapped a short time later, and before they went into mass production. So the design for the 4th award above is correct, and was approved by the Army. Although none were awarded, some original manufacturers samples still exist. The above badge is not one of them...
