JakeBird6684 Posted September 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2019 Hey all, I wanted to start this fourm to gather information on the Hellship called the Arisan Maru and any information on it. Please also post any items of marines/saliors/soldiers lost on the ship. The reason i'm staring this fourm is because my great, great Uncle PTR1c Peter Paul Swinconos was aboard when she went down and unfortunatly lost his life. These are the resources I gathered so far: https://www.west-point.org/family/japanese-pow/Bowen_AM.htm https://www.us-japandialogueonpows.org/Bowen.htm I would also be interested in purchasing anything related to the ship. Thanks, Jake Bird
KASTAUFFER Posted September 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2019 Hi Jake I know there are a number of people on this forum who have items related to the Arisan Maru. My Uncle was a POW in the Philippines, but he was lucky enough to not have been on a Hellship. He was liberated at Bilibid. Here is an Arisan Maru related group in my collection. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25609-wwii-posthumous-pow-grouping-19th-bomb-group-bataan/

Dave Posted September 18, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2019 There's an amazing amount of information out there regarding both the hellships and US POWs under the Japanese in general. In addition to the links above, I also suggest: http://www.mansell.com/pow-index.html and http://corregidor.proboards.com/#category-1 On some of the websites, you have to follow links to find information that's not indexed...I literally spent days going down rabbit trails while writing the portion about hellship casualties for my book on posthumous Purple Hearts.
