Has anybody heard of the 20 000 Cavalry Sabres that where stranded in Noumea that made their way to Guadalcanal?
Vandergrift asked for machetes and was sent the sabers instead, as it was the only items available. From the book Guadalcanal by Richard Frank page 137

Isn't that how the Klewang cutlass lot wound up at Guadalcanal? Machete replacements?

Yes, that's how the Navy boarding cutlass / Klewang ended up there in the hands of some Army infantry units. There is a well known photo of one attached to a soldier's pack.

Isn't that how the Klewang cutlass lot wound up at Guadalcanal? Machete replacements?
