bobus Posted September 10, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2019 I recently acquired a numbered Mexican Border War medal with a period uniform. The person I got it from said they had researched the soldier based on a data base that had names associated with the numbered medals. I have been unable to find this data base on the internet. The number is 17775. Can anyone provide a link or assistance on soldier identification? The medal came with a uniform with NY militia buttons and the seller said he was able to identify the soldier as an African American but provided no documentation. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bruce Linz Posted September 10, 2019 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2019 I think your man is Albert Stow Butler. He first served in the Connecticut National Guard, 2nd Infantry on the Mexican Border. Later, during WWI, he served in the United States Naval Reserve. His WWII draft registration show him as a white male living in Connecticut. Good luck with your research.
