Lucky 7th Armored Posted September 8, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2019 Hi all, Any help with an accurate price would be great. eBay has them in the sold category looking pretty rough at $250 and then I see one at $600 with light wear/scuff marks but otherwise mint. Thanks again!
Blacksmith Posted September 8, 2019 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2019 Hard to tell from the pic Sir. Has the false-edge and tip been worked?
SKIPH Posted September 9, 2019 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2019 Difficult to say. Seems a little high to me, but PAL R37s are rarer in the excellent to mint USMC versions. It would depend on how bad a buyer wants it, and what is he willing to pay? SKIP
thorin6 Posted September 9, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 9, 2019 I'd say the one in this post is worth $125 plus or minus a bit. The poor sheath, the sharpening, and the scratches all reduce the value.
sactroop Posted September 9, 2019 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2019 According to what Frank Trzaska wrote a few years back PAL only had one contract for U.S.M.C. marked 1219C2 knives for about 100,000. That would be considerably more than the very rare Robeson U.S.M.C. knives while still much less than either Camillus or Union Cutlery. These days I'm often surprised at how much many of these pieces, especially in better to excellent condition, are getting in open auctions. Can't remember putting my hands on a U.S.M.C. PAL in any better condition than the one in the OP.
Lucky 7th Armored Posted September 9, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted September 9, 2019 Thanks for the comments, all! The blade actually isn’t sharpened and retains the factory sharpening and 90-95% of its factory park. There’s minor wear and some unfortunate scratches but other than that this knife is beautiful. I would respectfully disagree with $125 considering my knife is in better shape than all of these that sold for double that. Which is why I prompted this topic. Maybe the best bet is to just throw it up for auction and see. Thanks again, all! Haydn Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Okie96 Posted September 9, 2019 Share #7 Posted September 9, 2019 Missed a chance to upgrade earlier this year since I forgot about a few on eBay. That one I would say is hard to upgrade. I dont have my archive of ended auctions with me but I would think that one would be would be worth 200 to 300 without much trouble. If people are fighting over it and someone really wants it, as someone above said, you never know. You see so many that are average or have a nice handle and beat up blade or vice versa. However you see more than maybe one or two handfuls of these a year despite their low production. Again, as someone already said, Robeson is another story. To bad it doesnt have the pal sheath with it in just as good of shape. Ill try to remember to look at my archive as I have auctions going back through 2018. Sold listings only show like six months or something. Why, are we thinking of selling?

oldradiostuff Posted September 9, 2019 Share #9 Posted September 9, 2019 They seem to be selling in the 250 range pretty regularly, but someone got the deal of the year on this nice example for only 99 cents!: https://www.ebay.com/itm/383111230152? Okie96 Posted September 10, 2019 Share #10 Posted September 10, 2019 Uhh what!? You sure that auction didn’t get pulled on an offer or something? I’ve been keeping an eye out lately including searches that would have brought up that title and I don’t remember ever seeing that one. If that guy got that as a full auction everybody was sleeping and it was potentially the deal of the decade.
oldradiostuff Posted September 10, 2019 Share #11 Posted September 10, 2019 I don't know what the whole story was but the ending price for that item was 99 cents. My son is a programmer and wrote a script for me so I can see what best offer listings sold for, and that one had an offer of 99 cents that was accepted and ended the listing. There may be more to it, but the listing ended with a 99 cent sale.
Lucky 7th Armored Posted September 10, 2019 Author Share #12 Posted September 10, 2019 Hah! You guys caught me, that’s actually the knife I bought. I thought the pictures were poor but saw what looked to be a beautiful knife so I sent in an offer which they accepted. It wasn’t .99¢, though. Must be an eBay thing. I originally bought for display but now I need to recoup some funds after purchasing a uniform!
Blacksmith Posted September 10, 2019 Share #13 Posted September 10, 2019 As others have mentioned, the only real opinion on value that matters is the buyer.
Lucky 7th Armored Posted February 19, 2020 Author Share #14 Posted February 19, 2020 As others have mentioned, the only real opinion on value that matters is the buyer. Well, that is a bit obvious, no? What's the point of this sub-forum then? Anyways, for the sake of information I sold this for $400 on eBay. Costa Posted February 19, 2020 Share #15 Posted February 19, 2020 the buyer determines the market. and that is just it. it is a buyers market.
thorin6 Posted February 20, 2020 Share #16 Posted February 20, 2020 Ignoring the obvious and looking back on this, I might have paid $175 or so. $400 was a really good deal for the seller/OP.
