Hello members, I am a Navy Reserve veteran from the 1960's. I joined in Jun 64 and was discharged Jun 70. I went to boot camp at Philadelphia Navy Training Center. Volunteered to do Christmas leave replacement duty aboard the USS Albany CG10 in Norfolk VA, where I learned bright work gets polished before chow time, no matter how cold it gets. I was introduced to a chipping hammer and wire brush while making up my mind not to go for and topside rate. Back in Cleveland, I signed up for MM "A" school and that was it, warmth all year in a hole. I did a tour on an ammunition ship USS Virgo AE30 and naturally a member of the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club. I also worked as a recruiter for the Navy Reserve in Cleveland Ohio.
I ended my service time as a Second Class E5 Machinist Mate.
Looking forward to being part of these forums.
