Kai-Gunto and Shin Guntō surrendered in 1945

Here is a Naval Kai-Gunto officers pattern sword introduced to the navy in the early 1930’s based on the traditional tachi (slung sword) and a Shin Guntō used by the Imperial Japanese Army. Both of these swords were surrendered to Rear Admiral James Kepler Davis in 1945. Both of the sword blades were made in the seventeenth century. Here also are some items that are part of the Davis group.

Beautiful swords. My dad brought 2 swords back from the Pacific, one an officer's sword. Sadly, he sold them when I was off at school. Never had a clue as to who had made the officer's sword. I'd love to have them now.
