Rummage sale find this morning. Don't know much about WWI items. Has signal corp collar disc. Don't know what the gisd or red stripe patches designates. Medal has a FRANCE tab on ribbon. Inside tag says US COAT rest is frayed. Has a 4 but can't see second number. Figured I couldn't go wrong for 10 bucks.

Congrats, that is a great find. Heck, one of the WWI Victory Medal ribbons is worth what you paid.

Red stripe is a WW1 era discharge chevron. He has a few chevrons on the lower end of the same sleeve to signify overseas service.

I dont see any wound chevrons. I believe the patch is for service in one of the General Intermediate Supply Depots, of which there is some info about right here on the forum if you Google it...

The WW1 Victory Medal with France clasp matches up perfectly what youd expect to this vet to have earned. Great jacket!!!

The "GISD" shoulder patch is General Intermediate Supply Depot.

The chevron appears to have a Signal Corps branch insignia below.  One of the collar disks probably matches that.

Thank  you all for all the info. There wasn't much at the sale but a bunch of furniture (2nd day of the sale) I was walking out and seen a cardboard that was closed sitting on a bookshelf. I opened it and this was in it.
