1/35 scale Ardennes Outpost

This is going to be a 3 man .50 caliber outpost guarding a crossroad somewhere in the Ardennes during the winter of 1944-45. Because this is going to be a static, defensive position I started with the MG and dugout first. Once I figured out the terrain I could them make the figures fit to the environment rather than building the terrain around already built figures.

Anyway, this is pretty simple, a piece of bass wood, layers of foam board to build up the hill and then covered the foam board with air dry clay. The sandbags are made with the same air dry clay and tissue paper.

Adding the figures and some boards. The figures are modified DML "Battle of the Bulge" set and the guy on the field phone is the old Tamiya figure.

I did a lot of work on the terrain. I set up the figures and forgot to take photos of the grass before I added the snow.

Hi Lars,

I used very fine wire and twisted the barbs. I put a drop of super glue to hold the barbs in place and then trimmed them off after it was in place. It's not exact or perfect but it visually gives the idea of barbed wire.

Hey Dennis

Nice work so far on this diorama. I see you're sandbag technique is up to its standards and the barb wire looks very realistic. It's starting to feel very cold in this dio. It must be Dec. 15, 1944. Things will be getting hot pretty soon. Looking forward to seeing this baby as it comes along.

Hey Dennis; excellent work on those figures. It's summertime but I feel their cold. Like Superchief said, its a small diorama but very well executed.

Dennis,

Awesome job! I really like the beard on the machine gunner. These pictures don't show the radio operator. I would love to see more of an overall shot.

Thanks for posting!! Kat
