Ira Green 3G G23

The Ira Green Company is located in New York and has been manufacturing Military Insignia since 1943. They are currently in business and one of a few Military Insignia businesses still in operation. The hallmarks used are 3G and G23. Shown here are the two hallmarks on Parachute wings.

Here is an older Ira Green card with wings. NOTE the A.G.O 3-G which is on the bottom. We have often wondered what "AGO" meant. This shows clearly that it was not unique to GEMSCO badges. While the meaning is still undetermined, it must have some tie in the the Adjutant General's Office or Adjutant General's order. AGO G2 is found on many GEMSCO badges, but the is the first proof I have seen that another manufacturer also put AGO on their insignia cards. Anyone have other badges with some other AGO marking?

I have a pair of US Pilot wings mark G23.  Could they be from WWII?  Thanks

The G23 Hallmark that is still used today by Ira Green is not a WWII era marking. The G23 IOH hallmark began in the mid-1960's.

Interesting that the 3G doesn't seen to be STERLING, as the 3G Code dates from 1954 to 1965, and wings and say marksmanship badge and their qualifcation bars were commonly STERLING. The one below G23 even is STERLING making it a post 1965 Ira Green made one, so curious as to why the 50s mid 60s one isn't.

  I have little knowledge on the subject and still looking for a compiled list of these 1 & 2 number "Maker Mark Codes"

Wanted to suggest maybe the MAKER just pulled and old die and added the G23

It is Embossed OUT Unlike the STERLING that is imprinted IN the Badge, This is the result
if the G23 was added to the die later (machined in the die) causing it to be raised up instead of in.

Do you know its really sterling or just an old left over mark in the die ?

Some new information (for me) in that thread, Thanks

  I think the theory that OLD DIEs were just updated when the new regulations came out,
Makes the most sense to me, they just added the number/letter to the old die that still had STERLING embossed on it.
No one ever complained so it continued until new dies were made

I did finally find a nice list of the known 1 & 2 digit codes Looks like hundreds on the list
It was published by a member here and can be found on the web
