Cpl. Punishment

Yesterday, I was contacted by the daughter of a local WWII veteran, saying she had her fathers uniform she wanted me to have. I, of course, said what an honor it would be to take care of the uniform!

When I received the uniform, all the ribbons, CIB, and collar brass had been stripped. I was excited to receive the uniform and multiple undershirts since they belonged to a local man who was a bit of a local hero. However, I was upset that everything had been stripped.

Upon inspection of the pockets, I was elated to find all of the brass, ribbons, and a pinback CIB!

This gentleman was wounded on Luzon. He was shot through the neck by rifle fire. The daughter told me her father spoke of his friend packing the wound with mud to stop some of the bleeding. The family still has some more things such as a unit yardlong, but as of now, this is all I have. I now am trying to find out which unit in the 1st he was with. His name was D a r r e l l L. W e s t. The uniform is not named inside, so I am very glad to have gotten it right from the family.

Thanks for looking!

And here is what I found in the pocket! The ribbons are WB! The 3 place ribbon bar had one loose pin, but with lots of patience, I was able to safely attach the ribbons to the uniform.

This man was wounded on Mt. Lagula (Hill 816) on April 3, 1945. Troop G of the 12th cavalry suffered 15 KIA and 19 WIA. They were ultimately forced to fall back, but killed 49 Japanese troops.

I have to say, I have never seen overseas bars such as this. This one pictured is from his undershirt. He has an overseas made CIB, so perhaps this is also theatre made?

Thank You, yes we can say these OS Bars are Theater Made, might be tinsel or a very fine silk? thread, hard to tell from here.
