thunderbolts45 Posted July 30, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2019 Hello all, these patches and pins all belonged to my grandmothers first husband (my grandfather was her second) who served in the US Army during WW2. I found these in a little box with his name on it in her estate. What confuses me is that he had a 103rd division patch and the blue patch is from the 409th infantry regiment which was with the 103rd, but the "AAAO" patch and pins are from the 39th regiment, which was with the 9th division. The two blue patches look like they were made at the same time but are for two different units. Does anyone else find this odd. My understanding was that he was an infantryman but for some reason he also had a signal corps pin. He was not a collector so I assume all these items were brought back by him after the war. Is it possible that he served with the 39th first only to later be transferred to the 409th? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
gomorgan Posted July 30, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 30, 2019 Very possible that he served with one and came home with the other or was low points and reassigned at the end of the war.
Wake1941 Posted July 31, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2019 The 39th tabs are killer, they are theater made and very sought after
