Received a call this morning from a local fellow who said he had some original landing charts from Iwo Jima.  He wanted me to look at them and give him some idea as to value or how he could sell them.  I was skeptical at first but when I saw what he had there was no doubt as to the grouping being original.  He has the provenance in letters and documents from a Navy officer who served aboard the U.S.S. Mellette (APA156) an Attack transport ship that provided the transportation to members of the 4th Marine Division to the beach.

I am not certain how many of the original, near mint condition, groupings there are out there but this one appears complete.  I will be returning to take some photos in a couple days.  He has had these documents stored for several years and did not think too much about them.  His interest was peaked when he saw pawn stars and discovered that Rick sold one of the documents for $10,000.  I guess that would energize most anyone!  Regardless, he is interested selling the documents so if there is anyone interested I would be happy to send photos or post them on the forum when I complete them.  Again, not knowing how common a complete, original Iwo Jima grouping like this may be, I am assuming he has a treasure there.

I wouldn't believe anything on Pawn Stars, it is a scripted TV show.

I understand that.  I just mentioned it because what he saw on pawn stars was what prompted him to bring these important documents out of storage.

The stories may be bogus but the items were usually real. Here's a forum member's post of his set and then a link to other forum threads:

I have one of those maps as well and have a thread on the forum about it.  Awesome set of documents.

I'm an ETO map collector so Pacific maps are not in my field of expertise but the maps marked Secret are tremendous.  I would estimate that to the right collector the group 6 maps and the Bulletin would be in the $2,000. range

I have reviewed the Thread, thanks.  The owner wants to get the grouping appraised.  I have no idea where he might go to do that.  If anyone knows of a source I will relay it on to him.  Regardless of the appraisal he wants to sell the grouping.  If anyone might be interested or knows someone who would be, let me know and I will forward the Phone number.

I assume you are talking about the 6 Okinawa maps and bulletin?

Yes, but again my estimate is only a guess as I really do not know what PTO maps like these fetch.
