Hey everybody! I thought I’d share this really neat MacGregor Football Helmet that was converted into a Tanker Helmet I got a while back on eBay. It’s still in pretty great shape and the inner leather liner is still soft and has an interesting bowling alley smell. The headset and mic seem to also still be in good shape. It also has a sticker stating that in can’t be used as a motorcycle helmet and another one on the inside stating how to refinish it. I tried it on for fun to see if it fits and it does, but the rubber earpieces are extremely uncomfortable. 0007846df5e25d212172b19ac54a6db5.jpg443e7a0221fe6781240e86817f5e0afd.jpg83b39f441b4a45d21e5bf5edc237d340.jpg970977a4df8c1a30bd8da84c33e804de.jpge84d4c2c80aac65960d8f77e20cbc49c.jpgf681bd38a852b70d759ca5a05e3dffdb.jpg7eae8293c3e1fe291ea43983ada05843.jpg

Defense Property Disposal Service, formed in 1972, in 1985 it was renamed Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service who write and stamp a lot of modern surplus DRMO( Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office), in 2010 it was renamed Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Servives.

So basically this sticker was put on at the time it was surplussed

Thanks az Cap Camo, I knew I seen that DSPS before just wasn't ringing a bell. That label, now is interesting, cause it seems this helmet was in the supply system a long time before they sent it on it's way. True this type was superseded in the 60s by the new CVC helmet, but these older types evidently still seen some scattered use, active and reserve component, as this late 1969 or early 1970 photo at the Fort Knox Tank Crewman AIT school shows.

Thats good to know, honestly it didn't even occur to me to look up what the sticker was about. I'm assuming it was probably surplussed in March 1975 right?

Hm pretty interesting these managed to still be used this long. Good picture by the way, I've been trying to find more pictures of these types of helmet in use, but it mostly seems to be pictures of the M1938 Style Helmet and the regular T-56 Helmets.
