trenchbuff Posted July 22, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2019 Thought I'd share a few things from a local vet named Howard Brooks who enlisted in the Montana National Guard in 1939 and was assigned to Co. D, 163d Infantry. He stayed with that unit when it was federalized into the 41st Division all the way until wounded on Mindanao, Philippines in 1945. My favorite item in the group is his battle worn M1 helmet that shows the scars of 3 1/2 years of combat in the Pacific. The finish is almost worn smooth and looks to have been used from everything from a wash basin to a cooking pot. It still has his original International Molded Plastics liner. Brooks past away at the young age of 57. A pretty plain, worn out old steel pot but with quite a story.

Trevor M. Larson Posted July 24, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 24, 2019 Outstanding grouping to a little known but hard fighting unit! That helmet is killer!
