The reference I have says that these were only worn by those that took part in the Aleutians invasion and part of the Kiska Task Force ATF-9. There are a number of photos of soldiers to include members of the First Special Service Force wearing these canvas printed Kiska SSIs in Alaska. I believe they wore them on both shoulders. The only ones worn during the invasion were these canvas printed patches that were supposedly manufactured in Canada. There are supposedly three variations of the printed canvas patches. The fully embroidered versions of this patch came afterwards and were not worn during the invasion. I'm guessing someone took a fine black felt marker and wrote the information on this patch as I've never seen one like this before.
