aerialbridge Posted July 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2019 Hollywood actor Rip Torn (born Elmore Rual Torn, Jr.) died in L.A. this past week at age 88. Born in Temple, TX, he was an Army M.P. during the Korean War according to the Army Times. He was often cast as quirky characters, parts that seemed to suit his personality, and became a true cult actor. He played a number of good military roles, such as in Time Limit (1957), Pork Chop Hill (1959) and Beach Red (1967), as well as appearing in 60's series like Combat, 12 O'Clock High, Route 66, Naked City, Bonanza, Rawhide, Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Untouchables, Alfred Hitchock Presents, Thriller, Dr. Kildare and Ben Casey. He was perhaps best known for his role in Men in Black (1997) and the sequel in 2006. https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2019/07/10/actor-and-army-veteran-rip-torn-dies/ With fellow Texan, Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in Men in Black; with Gregory Peck in Pork Chop Hill-

JasonT Posted July 13, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 13, 2019 I never realized he was that old. I'll always remember his as Patches O'Houlihan in the movie "Dodgeball". Coincidentally, you can spot several WW2 era patches on his jacket throughout the film. Dumb movie, but funny as hell. "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!!"
