Red Devil Posted July 12, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2019 Greetings! I would like to share a recent local find and would appreciate any evaluation. 1942 dated officer's jacket with patches for the 15th Cavalry group/recon and 17th Cavalry Recon. Combat leader stripes with 4th Cavalry (or Mechanized Cavalry perhaps) DIs by Meyer. Ribbons are all pin back and are rusted solidly onto the jacket, so it looks like that spot and a few others were exposed to moisture. I find the Ruptured Duck interesting and rarely encountered on officer uniforms, but this one is the only patch on the uniform sewn directly through the lining so it feels consistent with a last addition while leaving service. An obit found with the uniform that allegedly identifies it to to former area teacher mentions multiple wounds and fighting in multiple campaigns across Europe (no mention of unit affiliation), but there are no markings in the jacket to attribute it to the veteran. I was leery picking up a uniform with all the "bells and whistles" but on closer examination I am leaning toward it being original. The best part was found in the pocket--a pair of English-made cavalry spurs! All feedback always most welcomed.
Red Devil Posted July 12, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted July 12, 2019 More. The jacket is clean around the ribbons, but they are rusted to the jacket itself. Maybe it went through the wash? Spurs were found in the pocket.
Timberwolf Posted July 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2019 Great officer service coat! 4th Cav was attached to the 104th so I definitely like this one.
