Windraider Posted July 12, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2019 Hello, I have an M4 bayonet from Camillus in VP.Co. (VP 1) got scabbard from the 1953 contract. The leather handle is light and rough. You can quite well recognize the processing traces. Besides, I've had another 1953 M4 from Camillus for some time. This is also in a VP.Co. Scabbard (VP 1) and has a lightly worn state. Here, the handles are much darker and smoother, better processed. Is that due to the use or are there manufacturing varinates? Has the dark color come on later or impregnation? Also above the Lantchplate has black color. Regards

SKIPH Posted July 12, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2019 Without a doubt the top one has not been used much, nice finish, leather looks like it just came out of the original packaging. The second one appears to just have some wear, but no abuse. Handle could have some preservative, or just sweat, or wet from use or weather. Both nice original 1953 contract Camillus M4s. mikedon Posted July 12, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2019 I have both handle types. I believe the darker handle comes from use.
