I just acquired these two USMC Campaign hats; want to sell one, but not sure which is earlier/later?  WWI or WWII?

Both have screw back EGAs on them.

One has excellent retaining chin/back of head strap

as long as you're looking, any ideas of value?

thanks,

zk

WWI USMC Campaign hats have folded & sewn brim edges. Army hats do not.

Here is an excellent website with details on the campaign hat

http://www.worldwar1.com/dbc/camph.htm

Remember any EGA can be put on any campaign hat at any time so check the hat itself and not so much the EGA.

That link does not seem to be working, I don't know why I cut and pasted it from my bookmarks. Maybe this will work I copied it and typed it in this time.

www.worldwar1.com/dbc/camph.htm

If that doesn't work the website is worldwar1.com. the website is not easy to find things on but it is there under Campaign Hats.

thanks to all.

EGAs attached.

The darker one with the cleaner hatband says HAT, SERVICE, FIELD, 1944

I see the other (no contract info) looks like it had a pinback something on it originally..

Your HAT, FIELD, SERVICE 1944 is actually of 1970s manufacture and is not an issued piece.

I believe I remember reading about that. They were like used as souvenirs or as reproductions I believe. Can't remember for sure where I read that.

You probably read about it here.  It's been discussed here and over on WAF.

of course, that really doesn't have anything to do with dating the hats themselves.
