Naval Beach Batalion insignia/patches

Hello,

I have question concerning the unform of the Naval Beach Batalions that landed on Omaha Beach. (the 6th NBB in particular)

Which insignia did they wear and where on their uniform? I do not mean their dress-unform but the jackets they wore during the actual landing and there-after.

When I look at various photographs it seems they do not have any insignia/patches.

Did they already have the red Navy Amphibious Troops patch?

Maybe you know where I can find information?

All tips/information will be highly appreciated

Best regrads from Holland

Flores, I have looked at many period photos. I do not see any insignia worn on any Beach Battalion uniforms, at all. I do not think there were any regulation insignia worn. At most, personal things. The wearing of patches and unit insignia was more of an Army thing

Thanks for the answer, sorry for my very late reaction. How about the red combined- amphibious patch, the red colored one?

I don't even think the Navy Red Ampib patch was worn in the ETO, certainly haven't seen a photo where it's worn later during the Invasion of Southern France, and later still during the Rhine River Assaults.

. It would only have been worn on dress uniforms. SSI were not worn on Navy Combat / Utility uniforms. Navy did NOT wear the blue Army SSI.

. No SSI patches were worn on Navy utility uniforms. Only on dress uniforms.

Roger, it would of been cool though if we did spot one of those Red Ampib ones being worn by a Sailor during the Rhine Crossings in March 1945, in this instance just following the Army's way of wearing shoulder patches.

It is very interesting, and very dief uit at the same time, to see that NAVY regulations concerning uniform-markings etc. were so diiferent from Army regulations. It makes research quite a challenge....
