I recently watched the short Service With The Colors from 1940 and recommend it to members of the US Militaria Forum. The are great shots of uniforms, equipment, vehicles, offices, mess hall etc.

My question concerns the DUI they are wearing. Near the beginning of the short, they are wearing DUI for the 30th Infantry Regiment. Toward the end of the film, the same soldiers (serving as color bearers) are wearing DUI that are the same as the 3rd Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia. Would they change because they were serving as color bearers or is this a Hollywood mistake? The uniform the sergeant is wearing appears to be the same uniform in both scenes but the DUI is changed.

The 30th Infantry Regiment was one of the regiments assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division before and during WWII. Soldiers assigned to the regiment would wear their regimental insignias when assigned to them. If they were assigned to the Division HQ or to a "Non-Color Bearing Unit (NCBU)," they would wear the division insignia. The 3rd ID is unusual in that the NCBU insignia is the same as the SSI.

I would say that the uniforms are spot on for what the actors are trying to portray.
