digi-shots Posted June 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2019 I need some help in identifying this cap... WWII vintage ? Army or Marine Corp/Navy? It is a center seam so I am leaning towards Army. Does this look like a factory short brim or has it been cut down? The HBT weave looks like Army but I thought I read where the USMC also used this weave on caps(??) Thanks! doyler Posted June 26, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 26, 2019 Looks like the standard army one. The marines wore them if they could get their hands on them. The first Marine issued/manufactured was the P44 cap.It had a longer brim Will add if its been shortened it may have been done if the front was frayed or heavily worn.I have seen this done on a couple of caps from the era Also not uncommon to have these made on a local lever or even in Japan from shirts or trousers.I have several hbt caps that very in quality or construction that were locally produced. digi-shots Posted June 26, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted June 26, 2019 Thanks, Ron I saw another thread on the swing caps and saw that they were more puffy (as good a term as I can think of) on the top. This one just looks like a short brim 8 pointer. Any idea of age? WWII or newer? Any idea why they were favored by the Marines?
