Hey Guys,

I have another head scratcher. I have attached both a front a back shot. Is it Navy, Coast Guard, or what? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Kentpost-54415-0-47742200-1561246823.jpgpost-54415-0-08872800-1561246846.jpg

Salvage Sailor

It's been discussed several times on the forum and the best identification is this mark was used to designate class leaders at Sampson Naval Training Center during 1944-45

PS - I moved this topic to the USN ranks and rates board

In the head scratcher department. For anyone interested in the CPO bullion rating badges that never were. Doing a browse thru E-Bay I came across this pristine looking Quartermaster, Aviation rating badge. Must have been made on speculation because the rating, color material and chevrons are from a different time period. Enjoy..

They appear from time to time. People suggest they were made for collectors, though they are obviously not period.

Ahhh, With the pristine number of 1900s and 1920s rating badges that show up on the buying channel, there MUST be someone on the planet that has a digital template to make up modern re-creations of vintage rating badges with modern embroidery machines

Maybe someone has or will develop a digital embroidery machine that can replicate analog patches, but it would need something custom. I have seen photos of reproductions and an experienced collector should be able to tell the difference.
