Leather Sheath...Property of US Gov't

I found this Property of US Gov't marked leather sheath today at a flea market. I've seen one before but can't place it. I gave $1.00 for it.

It looks like it fits a knife with 6-7" blade, 13" OAL.

The handle retaining strap has a United Carr marked male snap and the strap is held on by a brass rivet painted black on the back side.

No other markings....Looks unissued.

I have never seen a Kabar knife sheath that looked like that either.

I wonder if it is actually for a knife, or something else.

Not unheard-of, but odd that it lacks an eyelet for a leg tie.

I believe that's a WWII USMC Kabar brown leather sheath with United Carr marked snap.

I tried a KA-BAR in it and while it fits it's very tight and the pommel extends about a half inch above the leather. I was thinking along the lines of maybe a PAL RH-36 knife.

I've never seen one. Maybe a Catt 225Q or Case 337-6Q might fit - since it's not a known Navy/USMC., .
