B-17E_1943 Posted June 20, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2019 Hi everyone - I just joined up & was referred here by Bob @ ww2wings. I found these at a yard sale recently, and am wondering what y'all think. There is no "Sterling" marking; the only marks I can find are the roundish and diamond shaped marks in the upper left in the last photo. They are nearly exactly 3 inches wide. I'm not looking for valuation as these are the first full-sized wings I have found in the wild. I've been looking for some for a long time, and they are keepers - unless they're worth thousands of dollars, or something silly like that. I'm asking for opinions as to their authenticity, era, etc. I presume they are WWII era, which is what I collect - just about anything I can get my grubby hands on. Thanks a lot! B-17Guy Posted June 20, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 20, 2019 Actually, you stumbled on to a cool set of CBI theater made pilot wings. The catch is missing, but to find those at a yard sale, well done. John
B-17E_1943 Posted June 20, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted June 20, 2019 Thanks much, John. Are they silver, or something else?
B-17Guy Posted June 20, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2019 Probably low grade silver.
B-17E_1943 Posted June 23, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted June 23, 2019 Thanks again, John. I guess I did ok - couple US uniform insignia, couple winged prop uniform insignia, and the wings for 5 bucks.
mtnman Posted June 28, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 28, 2019 If you found these China Burma India Theater made wings at a yard sale, you knocked it out of the park on your first try. Well Done. Theater Made wings are each one-of-a-kind and I love that pin hinge! Chinese through and through if I am not mistaken. Well done.
B-17E_1943 Posted June 28, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted June 28, 2019 Thank you; I am quite pleased with them. If only they could talk.
pfrost Posted June 28, 2019 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2019 There were more theaters of operation than just the ETO and CBI that most collectors don't think about. Not saying it isn't CBI, but it could be south American as well. (Panama, Mexico, etc).
