jguy1986 Posted June 17, 2019 Share #11 Posted June 17, 2019 Ive never seen a 36th insignia with a lightning bolt. What is that all about? No idea on specifics, but a friend of mine was at a small show a few months back, and saw an Ike jacket with the same style of lightning bolt applied OVER the shoulder patch. He texted me to ask about it, but it sold before I could do any research.

Phineaus Posted June 18, 2019 Share #13 Posted June 18, 2019 I found this posting on the forum from 2009 that suggests the lightning bolt on the 36th infantry insignia was added in the field by I Company of the 142nd Infantry Regiment during a particular operation over the Moder River. The source cited is the Texas Military Forces Museum blog. I found the original posting on that forum, which appears to be an anonymous posting by a veteran in 2006. Without clear photographic evidence or more solid documentation, its not totally pinned down, but remains an interesting line of further inquiry. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/60267-unusual-36th-id-marking-on-ww2-helmet/?fromsearch=1 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tapatalk.com/groups/texasmilitaryforcesmuseum/viewtopic.php%3ft=648&=
