Hi, I saw this helmet on the net and can you tell me more about it ? Original WW2 Helmet ? And the left insignia is 36th ID (without the flash) ??

Anyone have a link to that other thread? I know I've seen this helmet recently but I can't remember if it was on here or ebay. Can't seem to track down the other thread

Ive never seen a 36th insignia with a lightning bolt. What is that all about?

 

No idea on specifics, but a friend of mine was at a small show a few months back, and saw an Ike jacket with the same style of lightning bolt applied OVER the shoulder patch. He texted me to ask about it, but it sold before I could do any research.

I found this posting on the forum from 2009 that suggests the lightning bolt on the 36th infantry insignia was added in the field by I Company of the 142nd Infantry Regiment during a particular operation over the Moder River. The source cited is the Texas Military Forces Museum blog. I found the original posting on that forum, which appears to be an anonymous posting by a veteran in 2006. Without clear photographic evidence or more solid documentation, its not totally pinned down, but remains an interesting line of further inquiry.
