Grungy Early Vietnam Helmet

A nice untouched piece that I was able to pick up a few weeks back. Typical of many helmets worn during this time period, it's a mish-mash of Vietnam-era and older WWII produced parts. While it is almost in borderline relic condition, it's not a big issue for me personally

The helmet shell is a WWII produced, FS SB that retains what appears to be it's original finish along with it's chinstraps. Taking a peek behind the chinstrap slits, the rim on the shell is a manganese one which I believe would place it's production date to be post-1944. Besides the shell, the helmet liner seems to have all WWII produced parts. The liner's interior is caked with mud and absolutely filthy, so no clue on the manufacturer or any name that might've been penciled in. Moving on, the cover is a nice cotton double-stamped Contract. 5432 which would place it's production date to early '66. The best part I think is the "ink bleed-thru" from the green side. It's a nice look that contrasts well with the over-abundance of brown and khaki tones on this set.

Being the first Vietnam helmet that I've purchased in a while, I'm pretty happy with it. Hope you all enjoy as well

If I was a gambling man I’d put money on it being a liner made by Firestone. Firestone liners have a very distinctive pattern on the inside.
