The Oklahoma Kid

"The knife is not in perfect shape but this guy was The Oklahoma Kid and was in a pretty notable regiment. I am from Oklahoma so I thought I needed to have it.

The knife itself is blade marked KA-BAR / OLEAN, N.Y. USMC, has a Bonderized blade finish, thin handle, and round peened pommel.

The writing on the back of the sheath says Believe It Or Not, "R.C. Bohannan", "CO. A. 147th INF.", "The Oklahoma Kid", "Oklahoma, The Home of Good Moonshine Whisky". It had a little more but I could not make it out.

The writing on the front side of the sheath says "Panama", "Emriau", "Guam", "Saipan", "New Caledonia", "Iwo Jima", Guadal Canal", Tinian", Okinawa" and "Marshall Islands".

He enlisted in Tulsa, OK, 1-12-1943. He is buried in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Afton, Oklahoma.

The 147th Infantry was an Army unit that fought with the Marines in the South Pacific.

Matt, (aznation), helped me with the research. I would still like to get a picture of him."
