Air Force Master Jump wings?

Recommended Posts

I found this Master Parachutist badge today in a surplus store and noticed it was the Air Force blue embroidery. What Air Force MOS's would this badge be common? I was told SWOT, CCT, or Pararescue wear the HALO badge instead of jump wings. I'm not an expert in this area so any help is appreciated!

The SWOT is a new one on me, so I looked it up..........and

Special Operations Weather Teams, and having read their story, I would say they are wearings of the badge as well.

The USAF went to the subdued parachute wings about the same time as the Army began using subdued badges in the late 1960's. While Army insignia was primarily black on olive drab green, the USAF used a dark blue thread on their insignia. The units that wore these were the CCT or Combat Control Teams, the PJ's or Pararescue and the Special Operations Weather Teams. I believe that the USAF also had a few test parachutists as well. Shown here are the basic, senior and master USAF parachutist badges.

Illustrated here are the USAF Parachute badges worn from 1963 to around 1969. Prior to 1963 the USAF had a unique crest shaped parachute badge that proved to be unpopular, so the Air Force went back to using the US Army design. These embroidered jump wings with the detailed feathers are some of the most attractive ever made.

This badge coincides with the adoption of the OG 507 permanent press fatigue uniform back late 70s, early 80s. In addition to Combat Controllers, TACPS, SWOT, Pararescue, there are some special operations security forces, and possibly Air Force Academy cadets who participated in that academy-unique jump school who might have worn these wings. I knew a female academy graduate who was a jump master and wore these wings very proudly. She was also a KC-135 pilot.

Thank you everyone for the info! For reference, are these uniform removed wings hard to find?

Not at all, badges of this type Cloth Skill and Qualification Badges, to include the 60s 70s White on Blue AF Skill and Qualification Badges to also include the Army's 60s White on Olive Drab and late 60s early 70 Subdued on Cotton Sateen and the Army's more contemporary Poly Blend Subdued ones, are available in abundance in both unissued and used examples.
