CAREFUL - Fake ID'd M1 Helmet on EBAY

Hi everyone, watch your step with this one. The liner itself is good. It was sold a while back on Circa1941. At some point, it appears to me that someone added the shell to the liner and faked the identification with pencil to a KIA soldier in WWII. The stenciling on the liner looks like Navy to me. I did a search and found both a J.W. Beck and a E.J. Holm on the USS West Virginia at the same time during WWII.

In case anyone is wondering it's not me, I'm next door in Alberta province, this one is out of Saskatchewan :)

I noticed a lot of fakes/hump jobs coming from this seller in Saskatchewan; the town Shaunavon is really tiny, I got sent there for a week to do field work on the rigs.

Curious what got this person into militaria?

haha was just kidding Tyler :)

I'd be interesting to hear what the member has to say; looks like they pulled the auction pretty quick.

I looked back at Circa1941's facebook page and he posted a link to this liner for sale on his website back in December 2018... 5 months ago. The ebay seller, lazer4856, said he has had this liner for years. Can Grant at Circa1941 confirm that he sold this liner back in December?

I’ve dealt with the seller before and did not have any issues but I must say this is concern. I have his personal email, I may contact him and see what he says. He is from Canada but works in the States.

Good catch, Tyler! Circa1941 here, I sold it to the very account that is now selling it (with the new, false claims). This guy didn't even try to hide it by passing it off on a separate account.

An actual collector couldve bought from you for their collection. Instead some guy wins it, makes stuff up, then tries to sell it for more.

And thats another reason why new collectors get discouraged so fast.

Hey Grant,

Just want to say you might want to be careful posting his address and full name on the forum. Everything here is public, and I think in the past it was recommended by mods to refrain from posting personal information, especially before we have received a statement from the seller.

If that's the case, I apologize for violating the forum rules. I can no longer edit the post in order to remove the photo.

Simply trying to echo what has been said in previous threads. In the end everyone has the right to their privacy. I don't think anyone has done anything wrong here, and I don't think it is necessarily against the forum rules either. It has just been said in multiple past threads for personal information in situations like these to be withheld.

This is now off topic from the original subject of the thread. Moderators can handle the rest.

Interesting. I sent him a question about how the liner now has a "Named Shell" to go with it and this was his response;

Hello, thanks for the message. I actually just picked this Helmet up this past weekend at a gun show for what I thought was a fair price. I saw the thread posted on the forum and will be back tracking to get my money back. Thanks for the help.

This kind of crap is really screwing up historic items and collecting in general. Mods, I hope you nip this one fast and banish yet another one found lurking.

If you look at his past auctions, its quite eye rolling. There is a German helmet that he sold recently that has writing on the inside. If you cross reference the handwriting, it appears to me to have been done by the same hand. There is a #2 written in the same style in both helmets. You decide.....

And here is the listing for the German helmet that sold....hope the buyer sees this.

Funny how in his post he said he picked it up some years ago. Guess that translates to last weekend.

This is a beautiful piece of history, complete and named. I picked this Helmet up at a gunshow in the State of Montana some years ago.

I say those 2s are pretty conclusive. Exceptional detective work, Tyler.
