Salvage Sailor Posted July 30, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted July 30, 2019 USS BRYCE CANYON (AD-36) Shenandoah class destroyer tender in service 1950 to 1981. USS Bryce Canyon (AD-36)'s crew man the rail as she enters Pearl Harbor during one of her annual 'circle island tours' She alternated her service between San Diego and Pearl Harbor until she became the homeport Pearl Harbor destroyer tender from 1969 to 1981. During the 1970's she rarely went to sea (typically once a year around Oahu for a dependants cruise & to qualify for sea pay) and was known as "Building 36 at Bravo Piers". One of the few vessels on which you could collect seapay and be credited with sea duty while tied to the pier for years at a time.
